It didn't work?

Some images are different. You should try increasing the reds or making the image more brighter and see if that helps.

After you've made a new layer, select the eyes, then inverse the selection. Make sure your on the NEW, EMPTY layer before you fill it. After you're sure, press alt+delete or ctrl+delete (alt for foreground color -- color in first box -- ctrl for background color -- color in second box) to fill it with a color. Make sure one or both of the color boxes are set to black or white.
